Government & Education
We help government and education organizations communicate clearly through accessible, engaging experiences that better serve their communities.

overview
Public sector websites that serve the whole public.
Government and education websites carry obligations most sites never face: accessibility law, records transparency, procurement rules, and a public that expects answers in two clicks. We build ADA and WCAG 2.1 AA compliant websites and communications that hold up to scrutiny and still feel modern. And with new federal accessibility deadlines arriving in 2026 and 2027, the cost of waiting is now measurable.

Frequently Asked Questions
Here you’ll find answers to common questions about working with Government and Education companies.
Yes. We design and build to WCAG 2.1 AA, the standard behind both Section 508 and the Department of Justice's ADA Title II rule for state and local governments. That rule sets compliance deadlines of April 2026 for larger entities and April 2027 for smaller ones. We also audit and remediate existing sites, which is often the fastest path to compliance.
Yes. District sites have to serve parents looking for lunch menus, families comparing schools, staff hunting documents, and screen readers all at once. We build district and campus sites with clear navigation, accessible design, easy content editing for non-technical staff, and the enrollment-friendly storytelling that matters in an era of school choice.
Under the DOJ's ADA Title II rule, state and local government entities, including public school districts, must make their websites and mobile apps meet WCAG 2.1 AA. Entities serving populations of 50,000 or more must comply by April 2026; smaller entities and special district governments have until April 2027. If your site hasn't been audited yet, that timeline is shorter than it sounds.
We can, and we're used to it. Tell us your deadline, whether that's June 30 or September 30, and we'll scope an engagement that can be contracted and delivered inside it, from accessibility audits to campaign creative to phased website work. Use-it-or-lose-it money deserves better than another batch of branded pens.
Often, yes. Many jurisdictions allow direct awards under small-purchase thresholds, and we're glad to scope engagements, such as an accessibility audit plus priority fixes, to fit within them. For larger projects, we respond to RFPs with the fixed pricing and documentation your procurement office expects.
Requirements vary, and the landscape is changing fast. Most state consumer privacy laws regulate businesses rather than public entities, but schools handle student data governed by FERPA and COPPA, some states set their own rules for public sites, and every public site is held to a higher standard of transparency. Our practice keeps it simple: a clear privacy policy, cookie consent management, and analytics that honor visitor choices come standard on every site we build. We're designers, not your law department, but we build so the answer to "are we covered?" is yes.
Yes. Canned Spinach is a certified Minority Business Enterprise (MBE) through NMSDC, which supports the diverse-participation goals written into many public contracts and can strengthen a bid's scoring. If your agency requires state-level certification, ask us; we're happy to walk through our credentials during vendor registration.
